Final evaluation of learning gain pilot projects - independent report to the OfS by King’s College London. This evaluation focuses on the remit of the pilot projects: to test and evaluate the different methodologies currently used to measure and assess learning in higher education, and the suitability and potential scalability of these methods in England.

Evaluation of the National Mixed Methods Learning Gain Project (NMMLGP) and student perceptions of learning gain - To understand the plans and processes to recruit students to participate; to identify approaches and practices; to identify opportunities and challenges; to understand students’ experiences and opinions of the NMMLGP; to identify issues and considerations for scaling up to a sector-wide approach.

The HELGA strand of the learning gain programme assessed whether or not it is possible to use administrative data to measure learning gain. This body of work explains the various avenues that have been explored and the results of these analyses.

The purpose of the independent evaluation reports is to support learning, exchange and dissemination of effective practice from the first two rounds of the projects, and help establish ‘what works’ in safeguarding students. In addition we have published a response to the two reports which includes their recommendations to providers and the OfS.
