Student Space: an online platform to support students' mental health and wellbeing
Student Space was an online platform with phone, text and webchat services, targeted support, wellbeing information, student stories and a directory of services at universities and colleges, which ran from 2020 to 2025. The resources are now part of the Student Minds website.
Student Space was conceived as a programme of support to respond to the additional mental health pressures for students in England and Wales caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We partnered with Medr (formerly the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, or HEFCW) in July 2020 to make £3 million available for Student Minds to lead the development of the platform.
We extended the provision in August 2022 with a three-year funding commitment of £250,000 per year from the OfS and Medr.
Although the programme has now concluded, the resources that were developed by Student Space became part of the wider Student Minds website in September 2025, so students and their supporters can continue to access support, advice and information.
