Office for Students seeks views on proposed new name for City, University of London

The Office for Students (OfS) has launched a consultation on City, University of London’s proposal to change its name to ‘City St George’s, University of London’.

The Office for Students (OfS) has launched a consultation on City, University of London’s proposal to change its name to ‘City St George’s, University of London’ upon completion of its proposed merger with St George’s, University of London. It is proposed that this merger will take place on 1 August 2024.

The proposed new name of ‘City St George’s, University of London’ would apply to the higher education provider resulting from the merger of the two universities, should the merger go ahead.

City, University of London states that the proposed new name will reflect the history and legacy of the two institutions while conveying a strong single identity.

The OfS is keen to hear from students and their representatives, universities, colleges, and others on the proposed new name. The deadline to respond to the consultation is midday on 24 May 2024.
