Registration decisions (July 2020)

The Office for Students has refused the registration applications of AWA Business School Limited, Azores Properties Ltd (trading as Xcel College), ForMission Ltd and UK Advanced Technical Academy following a rigorous process of assessment and evaluation.

The applications have been refused because the initial conditions of registration, as set out in our regulatory framework, have not been satisfied.

The OfS has decided that AWA Business School Limited does not satisfy the following initial conditions of registration:

  • Condition C3: Student protection plan
  • Condition D: Financial viability and sustainability
  • Condition E1: Public interest governance
  • Condition E2: Management and governance.

The OfS has decided that Azores Properties Ltd (trading as Xcel College) does not satisfy the following initial conditions of registration:

  • Condition D: Financial viability and sustainability
  • Condition E1: Public interest governance
  • Condition E2: Management and governance.

The OfS has decided that ForMission Ltd does not satisfy the following initial conditions of registration:

  • Condition B3: Quality (student outcomes)
  • Condition C3: Student protection plan
  • Condition E2: Management and governance.

The OfS has decided UK Advanced Technical Academy does not satisfy the following initial conditions of registration:

  • Condition A2: Access and participation statement
  • Condition C1: Guidance on consumer protection law
  • Condition C3: Student protection plan
  • Condition D: Financial viability and sustainability
  • Condition E1: Public interest governance
  • Condition E2: Management and governance.

None of these providers have students who are accessing student support from the Student Loans Company.

Notes

  1. Conditions of registration are the primary tool that the OfS uses to regulate individual higher education providers. They are minimum requirements that providers must meet in order to be/stay registered with us, because they demonstrate that the provider is able to offer high quality higher education to students.

  3. Where the OfS’s decision relates to the quality of a provider’s courses or the outcomes achieved for its students, this concerns only its higher education provision.
