Student outcomes by provider - example dashboard

This dashboard uses fictional data to illustrate the indicators and split indicators we proposed to report and publish for each provider in relation to our regulation of student outcomes. It also includes overall sector level data calculated and presented in the same way.

For help using this dashboard, please see our user guide below or use the yellow 'help guide' button in the top right hand corner of the dashboard.

How to use this dashboard

Use the buttons at the top left to choose between two tabs:

  • All measures tab: This shows the provider’s overall performance across multiple measures by level of study.
  • Single measure tab: This shows a single measure for multiple types of split indicator (multiple characteristics). This tab allows users to look at provider performance across split indicators for a single measure.

Throughout the rest of the guide, we have suggested an order to using the buttons and filters, but they can be applied in any order.

1. Ensure the 'All measures' tab is highlighted

2. Select a provider

Use the ‘Select a provider’ dropdown box on the left to choose (or search for) a provider’s data to display.

The sector rates can be selected by selecting the provider ‘*All OfS registered providers’.

Providers without any data whatsoever will not show up in the ‘Select a provider’ dropdown.

3. Select a mode of study

4. Select a view of a provider’s student population

Use the ‘Select a population view’ buttons to change which population of the provider’s students should inform the charts:

  • Taught or registered: These are students that are either registered or taught at the provider in question.
  • Taught: These are any students that are taught at the provider in question.
  • Partnerships: These are students that are either registered by the provider in question and taught elsewhere under a sub-contractual partnership arrangement or are neither taught nor registered by the provider in question, but that provider acts as the awarding body for the qualification that a student is studying.

5. Choose whether to show indicators, difference from benchmark, or both

Use the buttons to choose whether to:

  • Show indicators only: This shows absolute performance relative to a numerical threshold. This is shown by default.
  • Show difference from benchmark only: This shows the relative performance and compares the absolute performance to a benchmark.
  • Show indicators and difference from benchmark: This shows both comparisons of performance.

Benchmarked data is not applicable to postgraduate levels of study, the partnerships provider view or sector-level data. The charts will still appear but will contain no data.

1. Ensure the 'Single measure' tab is highlighted

2. Select a provider

3. Select a mode of study

4. Select a measure

Use the ‘Select a measure’ dropdown to display provider performance for a student outcome measure.

5. Select a level of study

Use the ‘Select a level of study’ dropdown to select which level of study to display.

The definitions for each level of study are described in Annex B of our methodology document.

7. Choose whether to show indicators, difference from benchmark, or both

Further information

We have provided this dashboard as an example of the data we are proposing to calculate and publish for each provider, for use in our regulation of student outcomes.

It contains information on each student outcome measure we propose to calculate for this purpose, and the range of indicators and split indicators we have proposed to report.

Our consultation also proposes that the indicators included in this dashboard will also be published in a tabular format. We have provided examples of the data workbooks that illustrate this format in the ‘Get the data’ section below.

Further information about the data presented in this dashboard is available in our consultation documents. You can also read our frequently asked questions.
