Exploring student outcomes

Differences in continuation, completion and progression between students at English higher education providers

Our ‘Exploring student outcomes’ analysis has been published as an interactive data dashboard intended to support understanding of how well we are meeting our aim for every student, whatever their background, to have a fulfilling experience of higher education that enriches their lives and careers.

This document describes the methodology behind the analysis and outlines the interpretation of these experimental statistics.

For various populations of students at English higher education providers, the analysis looks at the proportions of students who:

  • continue on a higher education course
  • complete a higher education qualification
  • progress to managerial or professional employment, or further study, 15 months after gaining a higher education qualification.

This analysis supported our consultations on regulating student outcomes and constructing student outcome and experience indicators for use in OfS regulation. These consultations closed on 17 March 2022.
