About the student outcome and experience data dashboards

We issued three consultations in January 2022 about regulating student outcomes, the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and the construction of student outcomes and experience measures to be used in the assessment of each.

These pages include data dashboards, data files and responses to frequently asked questions related to the analysis and data resources we published in support of the consultations.

About the measures we proposed

Each dashboard is populated with indicators and analysis created to the specifications proposed within our consultation on the construction of student outcomes and experience measures.

The measures we proposed were:

  1. Continuation: The proportion of students continuing on a higher education course.

  2. Completion: Two completion measures that show the proportion of students completing a higher education qualification. These measures differ in their derivation and are called:

    - Cohort tracking completion: This identifies a cohort of entrants to higher education qualifications and follows those students at an individual level to track how many continue or qualify at the same provider in subsequent years.

    - Compound completion indicator: This uses the rates at which students withdraw from higher education study in a given year, from different stages of a course, to inform calculation of the proportion of students likely to complete the qualification they started.

  3. Progression: The proportion of students progressing to managerial or professional employment, or further study.

  4. Student experience measures: The proportion to which students’ National Student Survey (NSS) responses indicate that they agree or strongly agree to questions in each of the different scales. All NSS scales are included.

Because the dashboards are aligned to consultation proposals, the statistics reported through these pages remain subject to change upon conclusion of the consultation exercise.

Recommended use of the dashboards

The dashboards have been created using Tableau Software and require an active internet connection.

For the best experience, we recommend using a web browser on a desktop computer or laptop.

The dashboards do work on touch screen devices, but functionality will be more limited - particularly in using filters or tooltips.

The dashboards contain multiple filters and it will take a moment to reload the dashboard when each filter is changed. Loading time will vary based on internet speed and your device's processing power.

You can open multiple tabs or windows in your web browser if you wish to compare elements of the dashboards without having to re-select filters.

You will not be able to print directly from the dashboards, but you can take screenshots.

Excel workbooks and CSV files showing all of the data contained with the dashboards are available on each dashboard's webpage.
