Religious hate crime in the North East: Driving interventions for acceptance, reporting and supporting
This project consisted of learning about the experiences the university community through qualitative research. Mechanisms to increase reporting, respond to reports and offer support were then co-produced with students and other stakeholders.
Findings from the survey have informed policy and programme development, particularly on removing barriers to reporting as well as providing appropriate interventions and support.
Among the initiatives in this project was the launch of an online reporting and support tool. This was set up to provide a centralised platform for students and staff to make an anonymous report and, where contact details are given, obtain support and guidance from a designated staff member or make a request for the university to take formal action.
