Our business plan
The OfS business plan sets out the work we intend to do to achieve the objectives and outcomes set out in our strategy.
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we have decided to revise the business plan we had developed for 2020 to 2021.
For the foreseeable future, our focus will be on responding swiftly and effectively to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. As previously set out in our letter to providers, we will:
- support the government's objectives by sharing information with providers and enabling them to respond effectively
- protect students by working with providers to develop practical ways to maintain teaching quality and standards, enable adequate exams and assessment, and support financial sustainability
- seek to minimise long-run disruption to the English higher education system – reducing permanent damage and laying the foundations for the sector to recover as quickly as possible once the pandemic is over.
Pursuing these objectives will include continuing activity that was already planned, though in a time of crisis any work relating to our immediate response will be prioritised. Accordingly, the plan - due for publication in April 2020 - is undergoing substantive revision to accommodate the resource requirements of our coronavirus response.
We will publish a revised business plan once we have a better sense of the scale of the disruption caused by the outbreak, and the timeline for the pandemic to pass. Until then we will communicate clearly and frequently with students and the sector about our activity and regulatory focus.
