Open days

Campus visits and open days provide an opportunity for young people to gain an insight into university life and learn about the range of routes into and through higher education.

What are they?

  • An opportunity for young people to visit a university or college campus.
  • A chance to meet university staff and students they can relate to.
  • Usually includes a tour of the facilities.
  • Can include subject-specific activities, taster sessions or masterclasses.

What are the benefits?

Evidence shows that open days and campus visits increase learners’ knowledge about student life, the range of courses on offer and student finance.

Campus visits ensure learners know where to find information about higher education, supporting them to make well-informed decisions.

They can be particularly useful for pre-16 learners.
