Get the HESES data
This page gives data for the Higher Education Students Early Statistics (HESES) survey.
These figures are submitted by individual higher education providers and give an early indication of the number of students studying in each academic year. They are used primarily to inform the allocation of teaching funding for the following academic year.
Summary for the 2023-24 academic year
The figures below were compiled on 8 March 2024 using HESES23 data.
A provider's data is included in the figures if they are registered with the Office for Students in the Approved (fee cap) category and they signed off their HESES23 data by 29 February 2024.
The data does not provide a complete picture of higher education provision in England. Only providers who are registered with the Office for Students in the Approved (fee cap) category are required to return HESES23.

28 March 2024 - The HESES23 summary data workbook, Table 5 and Table 5 summary downloads were updated at 1600 on 28 March 2024 to include the figures for higher technical qualifications (HTQs) which were erroneously omitted from the versions released at 0930 on 28 March 2024.
