Closing the Skills Gap
Ongoing investment by the OfS is helping to enhance graduate outcomes and employability, and to upskill the workforce – providing the key skills that industry and employers will need and contributing to the Industrial Strategy’s ‘Grand Challenges’ and the UK’s productivity in the longer term.
We are supporting higher education (HE) providers to work more closely with business, professional bodies and other key partners to deliver productivity gains and support inclusive growth in their local or regional context in priority economic sectors.
Over 30 universities and colleges are being funded (initially through HEFCE’s Catalyst Fund, with ongoing investment from the OfS) to deliver new or enhanced HE courses in conjunction with industry - from advanced engineering to data analytics, and from artificial intelligence to bioscience. Investment in new HE provision, co-developed in this way with employers and professional bodies, can drive forward key parts of the economy, increase productivity, and enhance student employability.
