Information for providers on the crisis in Ukraine

UK government guidance on the crisis in Ukraine

The Minister for Higher and Further Education, Michelle Donelan MP, wrote to UK higher education providers on 15 March 2022 about the action the government has taken, and the further steps planned, to support British nationals unable to continue their studies, and Ukrainians in the UK, Ukraine and elsewhere.

The Minister and George Freeman MP then wrote to the UK sector on 27 March 2022 about the action the government has taken to suspend publicly funded research and innovation collaborations with Russia, including Russian universities.

The government issued guidance to the Office for Students on the Higher Education Strategic Priorities Grant for the 2022-23 financial year on 31 March 2022. This includes the provision of up to £4 million across the 2022-23 financial year to support Ukrainian nationals and Ukrainian-domiciled students whose financial means have been impacted by events in Ukraine.

The Minister wrote to higher education providers on 27 April 2022 with an update on the financial support that the Government will be providing to students who have come from Ukraine and are currently studying at English Higher Education Providers (HEPs). The Minister also wrote to students on 27 April 2022 to set out the support the Department for Education are providing during the crisis.
