Update on theme measures, benchmarking and response thresholds in the NSS
This paper outlines some outstanding issues following our 2023 review of the National Student Survey, including proposed theme measures for the NSS questions, and an update on benchmarking and response thresholds.

The deadline for responding to the consultation is 1700 on Thursday 30 May 2024.
Alongside this consultation, we have produced example results files to help providers understand the likely structure of the data files, should the proposals be agreed.
For all outputs we would expect to release outputs for 2023 and 2024 in a consistent format.
• Example: NSS 2023-24 provider portal template (external)
This file would contain the 2023 and 2024 NSS results given to providers through the provider portal, limited to the results which providers can use externally.
• Example: NSS 2023-24 provider portal template (internal)
This file would contain the 2023 and 2024 NSS results given to providers through the provider portal, including results which providers can only use internally.
